Plot twist is a multi-percussion solo, that includes different techniques for percussionists like multi-meter changes, sudden instrument changes, and polyrhythm. It starts off with a multi-set up of three concert drums, impact drum, cowbell, and break drum. It switches between compound and duple meters for rhythmic variation. The next section is just marimba, where a new theme is introduced. Then the piece goes into another multi-set up with a marimba, kick drum, and two bongos. This is when themes from both sections are reintroduced with different rhythms and instruments.
